The police intensified the investigation into the death of an elderly man in a bomb blast in Thalassery Eranjoli. The DIG has ordered a comprehensive inspection. It will be checked whether the incident is a continuation of the recent political conflicts. Police move to raid various centers.
Velayudhan, a native of Eranjoli Kudathalam, died in the blast when he went to the coconut field to collect coconuts. The explosion took place when he tried to open the pot on the veranda of the house, not realizing it was a bomb.
Police are investigating the source of the bomb. After the elections, there was CPM-RSS conflict in Newmahi. Some of them were injured. In Eranjoli area itself, there was conflict between two groups before the elections. Nine people are in remand in this connection. The police are investigating whether the bomb was delivered in connection with any conflict.
The slain Velayudhan used to go to the field every day to collect coconuts. If it was a bomb that had been stored there before, this should have come to his attention earlier. Since it was not there, the police concluded that the bomb was brought there in the following days.
Meanwhile, there is increasing criticism against the police for repeating bomb blasts in Kannur. Even though innocent people were killed in the blasts, the locals criticized that the police did not take effective measures except for some raids. The opposition has given a notice for an emergency motion in the Assembly regarding the Eranjali blast.
