Possibility of Sea Erosion; Warning Issued for Kerala-Kanyakumari Coasts

Thiruvananthapuram: The Ocean State Forecasting Centre has issued a warning of high waves along the Kerala coast as a result of the ‘Kallakkadal’ (swell surge) phenomenon. Waves ranging from 0.8 to 1.7 meters are expected until 11:30 PM on Friday. A similar warning has been issued for the Kanyakumari coast, where waves between 0.8 and 1.5 meters are anticipated, increasing the risk of sea erosion.

Fisherfolk and coastal residents are advised to remain vigilant due to the likelihood of sea incursion. Authorities have urged people in vulnerable areas to relocate if instructed, as rough sea conditions could worsen. Fishing vessels should be securely anchored in harbors, and adequate spacing between boats must be maintained to avoid collisions. All fishing gear should be safely stored. The State Disaster Management Authority has strongly advised against beach visits and sea-based recreational activities until further notice.
