The court has sentenced the accused in the Ambalamukku Vineetha murder case to death. Rajendran, a native of Kanyakumari, was given the maximum punishment by the Thiruvananthapuram Additional Sessions Court. The murder took place on February 6, 2022. Vineetha was killed in order to snatch the gold chain she was wearing around her neck.
The verdict was delivered after hearing statements from both the accused and the prosecution. Rajendran told the court that he wanted to take care of his 70-year-old mother and become a lawyer to provide legal aid to the poor.
When asked if he felt any remorse, Rajendran said he had no regrets because he had done nothing wrong, and that he would prove his innocence in a higher court.
However, the prosecution completely dismissed the defense’s arguments. Public Prosecutor M. Salahuddin stated that the accused was a hardened criminal and strongly demanded the maximum sentence—death penalty—for the crime.
