PP Divya Spends First Day in Jail Engaging with Staff and Immersed in Reading

District Panchayat former president P.P. Divya spent her first day in jail talking to the staff and engrossed in reading. Divya is being held at the women’s prison adjacent to Kannur Central Jail. To prevent any misconduct or assault from other inmates, she is under special observation by the jail staff.

Remand prisoners do not have restrictions like those imposed on convicted prisoners, nor do they have to wear special uniforms. The jail regulations allow them to wear clothes sent from home. Divya is in the first block of the women’s prison, which has two blocks. Being a new building, it has special rooms, and she is housed in one of them.

On Wednesday, authorities did not respond when asked if Divya had any visitors in jail. P.P. Divya surrendered to the police on Tuesday after her anticipatory bail plea was rejected.
