Prime Minister to Inaugurate Vizhinjam Port Today

Thiruvananthapuram: The long-awaited commissioning of the Vizhinjam Port, which Kerala has been anticipating for decades, will take place today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the port to the nation. Kerala is all set for this proud moment. The Prime Minister arrived in Thiruvananthapuram last night and was received by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He stayed at the Raj Bhavan.

This morning, at 9:45 AM, the Prime Minister will depart from Raj Bhavan to Vizhinjam. He is expected to reach the port by 10:15 AM via an Indian Air Force helicopter. After arriving, he will tour the port and later address the public during the official dedication ceremony. He is scheduled to leave Thiruvananthapuram around 12:30 PM. In the wake of the recent Pahalgam attack, security in the capital has been tightened significantly.

The SPG (Special Protection Group) has taken charge of the port’s security, with tight measures in place both on land and sea. Police have been deployed across the city, and the Coast Guard and Navy are ensuring maritime security. An estimated 10,000 people are expected to witness the commissioning ceremony. KSRTC will operate special bus services to Vizhinjam from Thampanoor and East Fort.

From 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM, public access will be permitted on the road near the port gate at Mullur. Visitors must carry identification cards. Only the Prime Minister’s and Chief Minister’s vehicle convoys will be allowed through the main gate. Parking and traffic regulations have also been enforced around the Vizhinjam area.
