The search for Arjun, who went missing in a landslide in Shirur, will resume today. The dredger brought from Goa to Karwar is scheduled to be brought to Shirur today. The dredger vessel will be taken to Shirur during low tide as it has to go under the bridge over the Gangavali river.
It is estimated that the mission can be started soon after the dredger reaches Shirur. It is hoped that the search will be completed soon as the weather is favourable. A naval team will conduct a detailed inspection at the site of the landslide in Gangavalipuzha today.
The dredger brought from Goa reached the Karwar coast yesterday. It is a dredger with a length of twenty-eight and a half meters and a width of eight meters. It can also take up to three feet of soil at the bottom of the water. The main parts of the dredger are a Hitachi, a crane and two heavy poles to anchor it in the river.
Once the dredger reaches Shirur, the first phase of soil removal will be in the area where the navy’s sonar inspection found the metal parts. The search in Shirur was called off on August 16 due to adverse weather conditions. The government decided to resume the search after Arjun’s parents met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and requested a search.
