Today is the fourth day since the salary of government employees has been suspended. Finance department officials say that the salary will be received today. Today, which is the third salary day, the employees working in 12 departments including agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, cooperation and industry are to be paid.
The Secretariat Action Council is preparing for a strong protest against the delay in the salaries of government employees. The Finance Department informed that the salary will reach the bank account by noon today. If the salary is not received today, the Secretariat Action Council has decided to start a hunger strike. It is announced that the strike will continue until all the employees get their salaries.
If the money currently held by the government ends up in employees’ accounts, it will lead to an overdraft crisis. There are allegations that the salary freeze is part of a strategy to keep money in the government treasury as part of solving the overdraft crisis.
Efforts are being made to reach the treasury by this afternoon for the amount required for salary distribution. With that the frozen ETSB accounts will be removed. Employees can also withdraw money. The Finance Department is also considering imposing a limit on withdrawal of salary if the crisis worsens.
For the first time in history, the government has been embarrased by the suspension of salaries of government employees, prompting efforts to resolve the salary crisis. The Secretariat Council says that if the strike is not done now, the condition of KSRTC employees will be the same. There is also a situation where the money in the treasury cannot be withdrawn even if it is transferred to the bank account.
