Siddharth’s Death: Trial Yet to Begin 10 Months After Chargesheet, Family Blames CBI for Delay

Thiruvananthapuram: Siddharth’s family has accused the CBI of delaying proceedings in his death case. Despite the chargesheet being filed 10 months ago, the trial has yet to commence. Though the CBI had initially stated that the investigation, including the possibility of murder, would continue, no further action has been taken.

The chargesheet was submitted by the CBI Delhi Special Unit at the Ernakulam CBI Court, detailing the brutal assault Siddharth endured in his hostel room. The 19 students identified as accused by the Kerala Police are the same individuals listed in the CBI’s chargesheet. According to the CBI, the severe physical assault and humiliation caused extreme mental distress, leading Siddharth to take his own life.

The CBI had claimed that the preliminary chargesheet was filed within 20 days to prevent the accused from securing bail. They also assured that additional chargesheets would be submitted if necessary. However, the investigation has not progressed, and the trial has not begun. Siddharth’s family has also raised concerns about the CBI’s report, alleging that some guilty students were excluded from the list of accused.
