Thiruvananthapuram: The governor has suspended the vice chancellor over the death of Pookode veterinary university student JS Siddharth who was a victim of mob trial and brutal beating by SFI leaders.
Raj Bhavan has issued an order in this regard. The governor pointed out that the VC of the university had failed to prevent the violence faced by Siddharth. The Governor wrote to the High Court seeking a judicial inquiry into the incident. The letter was issued seeking the services of a judge for the investigation.
Sinjo Johnson, the main accused in Siddharth’s death, was also arrested. The investigating team arrested him from his relative’s house in Karunagappally this morning. Sinjo hails from Odanavattam, Kollam. Siddharth was brutally beaten by his relatives including him.
The investigation team had earlier issued a lookout notice against four persons including Sinjo in the incident. Apart from Sinjo, the Special Investigation Team has issued lookout notices against Saud Rizal, Kashinathan and Ajay Kumar. Seven people are still absconding in the incident.
Ten people, including SFI unit officials, have been arrested in the incident. One person is in police custody. Study ban has been imposed on 31 students involved in the case. The anti-ragging committee has also suggested to expel them from the college hostel.
Meanwhile, mystery is rising in the complaint that the girl is said to have filed against Siddharth. A complaint was filed in the college on behalf of the girl on the day of Siddharth’s death. The complaint was submitted to the Internal Grievance Redressal Committee on 20th of this month.
Siddharth’s body was found hanging in the washroom of the hostel on February 18. After this, the internal committee met on 20th and 26th. It is alleged that the girl was forced to file the complaint. There is a complaint of misbehavior.
