Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that isolated areas in Kerala may experience a temperature rise of 2°C to 3°C above normal on February 8 and 9, 2025. The department has also cautioned that the combination of high temperatures and humid air could lead to discomfort and heat-related issues.
The IMD has advised the public to take necessary precautions as extreme heat can cause serious health problems such as heat stroke, dehydration, and sunburn. The following guidelines have been recommended:
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between 11 AM and 3 PM
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of clean water, even if not thirsty. Avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, and carbonated soft drinks during the daytime, as they can cause dehydration
- Wear loose, light-colored cotton clothing and use footwear when stepping outside
- Carry an umbrella or wear a hat while outdoors to protect against the sun
