Thamarassery Shahbaz Murder Case: Court to Rule on Accused’s Bail Plea on 8th

Kozhikode District Sessions Court has postponed the verdict on the bail plea of six students accused in the Shahbaz murder case to the 8th of this month. The prosecution argued that the investigation is still in its initial stages and that granting bail at this point would not be appropriate.

Citing the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Nirbhaya case, the lawyer representing Shahbaz’s family urged the court not to consider the accused as minors. The family also argued that the crime was premeditated and executed with intent, and claimed that the parents of the accused were also involved in the incident.

The Juvenile Justice Board had earlier rejected the bail plea, prompting the accused to approach the District Sessions Court. Shahbaz’s father, Iqbal, expressed hope that justice would be served for his son.
