The book was printed in 2014, the mistake was noticed now, error will be corrected; Education Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister V Sivankutty said that the error in social work textbooks for Plus One classes will be corrected. Controversial was the reference in the Plus One Sociology textbook that instead of the communal reservation envisioned by the Constitution for the upliftment of the backward sections of the country to eliminate communalism, the Plus One Sociology textbook. The minister stated that the error in the book is being noticed now and the book was printed in 2014 and the SERTC has been instructed to correct the reference.

The controversial reference is in the Social Concerns section of the Plus One Humanities Group subject of Social Work. In the lesson that describes the dangers of communalism, it is described that due to communalism, social harmony will be damaged and communal organizations will be a threat to social and cultural development. To combat communalism, the fifth of the eight solutions is to introduce economic reservation instead of communal reservation.

The social work textbook prepared in 2014 for Plus One classes is still being taught in our schools. As soon as the error in the said part of this lesson, which has been taught in schools for the last ten years, was noticed, corrections were suggested. In higher secondary sector of Kerala we used only English medium textbooks. Textbooks prepared in English medium were translated into Malayalam without making any changes in 2014 in order to make it easier for children to study in their mother tongue. All the Malayalam textbooks prepared in this way are provided on the SCERT website. Therefore, the news that this textbook was prepared in 2019 is wrong.- says the minister.
