Dr. Shahana’s suicide, Ruwais’ suspension extended

Thiruvananthapuram :The principal of the medical college extended the suspension of Dr. Ruwais, who was responsible for the death of Dr. Shahana, who was a final year PG student of the medical college. The suspension was extended for 3 months. Shahana committed suicide due to mental torture for demanding dowry.

Dr. Ruwais, a student of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, was in love with Shahana. It had reached the point of engagement. However, Ruwais withdrew from the marriage due to non-payment of dowry.

After this, Shahana committed suicide. On the night of December 4, 2023, Shahna was found dead at her residence near the medical college. Ruwais was suspended from the medical college after the police registered a case against him and remanded him. After the High Court granted bail, Ruwais had filed an application to revoke the suspension.

Subsequently, the DME constituted a 6-member inquiry committee. The committee decided that the suspension could be extended for another 3 months. The principal of the medical college informed the state minority commission chairman AA Rasheed about this.
