Three Employees Suspended After Patient Gets Stuck in Lift at Medical College

Thiruvananthapuram: Three employees of Medical College OP Block have been suspended after a patient got stuck in the lift. Two lift operators and a duty sergeant were suspended pending investigation. Health Minister Veena George had directed the director of the medical education department to immediately investigate the incident and take action.

Ravindran, a native of Ullur, got stuck in the lift of the medical college at around 12 noon on Saturday. He was brought out at six o’clock on Monday morning. He was stuck in the lift for 42 hours.

Ravindran came to the OP department to see a doctor in the orthopedic department due to back pain. Ravindran boarded a faulty lift. Then he got stuck inside the lift. Ravindran’s phone fell on the ground and broke. So he couldn’t call anyone that he was stuck in the lift. No one else in the hospital noticed this. Meanwhile, the lift operator locked the lift and left. As it was Sunday, no one came near the lift or opened it the next day. On Monday morning, when the workers arrived and opened the lift to fix the malfunction, they found Ravindran in a weak state.
