Thiruvananthapuram: Two-year-old Devendhu, daughter of Sreethu and Sreejith from Kottukalkonam, was found dead in a well near their house. The accused in the case, Harikumar, is the child’s uncle and is charged with throwing her into the well.
A medical certificate from the psychiatry department of the Medical College Hospital has confirmed that Harikumar has no mental health issues. He was examined following a court order, and the findings were submitted to the police, who have now requested his custody.
Earlier, the police soughtfive-day custody, but the court denied the request after Harikumar changed his statement, denied the crime, and asked for medical treatment while breaking down in court. This led to the court directing a psychiatric evaluation.
Harikumar was taken to Medical College Hospital last Tuesday, but the certificate was not immediately available. Following the court’s direction, he was kept under medical observation, which has now resulted in the confirmation that he is mentally fit.
