Kannur: Following allegations of corruption against former Kannur District Panchayat President P.P. Divya, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu has committed suicide. P.P. Divya is currently absconding in connection with the case related to Naveen Babu’s death.
The UDF plans to introduce a motion against P.P. Divya, demanding her resignation from the Kannur District Panchayat. The first governing body meeting after Divya’s resignation is scheduled for today. Naveen Babu’s suicide has led to the CPM removing Divya from the position of President of the Kannur District Panchayat due to her involvement in the incident.
Following the police filing a case against Divya for abetting suicide, this action was taken. Divya is currently in hiding. The Principal Sessions Court is expected to deliver a verdict tomorrow regarding Divya’s anticipatory bail plea in connection with the case related to Naveen Babu’s death. It is likely that Divya will remain in hiding until the verdict is announced. The police have not arrested her yet, as they have been advised to wait for the verdict.
Even if bail is denied, the police may provide Divya an opportunity to surrender before the magistrate without making an arrest. Naveen’s suicide occurred after Divya criticized the delay in receiving the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the petrol pump during a farewell meeting.
