The Centre has appointed V. Narayanan as the new Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Secretary of the Department of Space. He will take charge on January 14. Narayanan, who is currently the head of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) in Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram, has a tenure of two years. The central government’s Cabinet Appointment Committee has issued a notification regarding this.
As Chairman of the Space Commission, Narayanan has played a key role in the development of India’s cryogenic engine technology, which was once denied to the country. The new ISRO chief, V. Narayanan, stated, “India has a clear roadmap, and with my strong capabilities, I aim to take ISRO to greater heights.”
Narayanan is a distinguished scientist and the senior-most director at ISRO. He has made significant contributions to the development of propulsion stages for launch vehicles, including liquid, semi-cryogenic, and cryogenic stages, as well as chemical and electric propulsion systems for satellites and control systems for launch vehicles.
