Valiyathura sea bridge broke in two , one part completly collapsed

Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram valiyathura sea bridge has split into two due to strong push. One part has completely collapsed. The large-span sea bridge ‘Raja Thura Sea Bridge’, which was rebuilt in 1959, collapsed at eight o’clock in the morning on Friday. The incident happened around eight o’clock this morning.

Two years ago, the gate of the bridge was bent under the flood. Ahamed Devarkovil, the then Minister of Ports, had promised to rebuild the sea bridge when he visited the site. No further action was taken. The first steel bridge was built in 1825.

It was wrecked in 1947 by the ship MV Pandit. Many people died in the accident. Then there was a big protest led by the locals. This is how the present bridge was built.
