Wayanad Rehabilitation: High Court Allows Land Acquisition

The Kerala High Court has allowed the government to acquire land for the rehabilitation of those affected by the Mundakkai disaster. The court dismissed a petition filed by estate owners opposing the land acquisition.

The court directed that compensation be provided to the estate owners during the land acquisition process and that the government be given the opportunity to measure and demarcate the land. The petition filed by Elston and Harrison estates was rejected by the court.

Minister O.R. Kelu stated that the government had been waiting for this favorable ruling and that, with the decision in its favor, the process for the township would continue. He added that there were no further obstacles for the project to move forward. The cabinet was supposed to make a decision regarding the township yesterday, but the cabinet meeting was postponed due to the death of M.T. The minister confirmed that the cabinet would soon convene to make a decision.

The minister urged the estate owners not to approach the Supreme Court and appealed for their cooperation, emphasizing that the ruling was favorable to the current government.
