Shocking new details have emerged regarding the rape incident in the Anna University campus in Chennai. According to the police FIR, 37-year-old Gnanasekaran from Kottur, who sells biryani near the university, reportedly harassed the victim for about three hours, recorded videos on his phone, and sexually assaulted her. The FIR also indicates that Gnanasekaran may have assaulted another girl on the same day.
The victim, a second-year Mechanical Engineering student from Kanyakumari, was harassed and threatened by Gnanasekaran while standing with her male friend on the university campus. The accused approached them without provocation, physically assaulted both, and forced the male friend to flee. After the friend ran away, Gnanasekaran assaulted the girl.
He then took the victim to a secluded road behind the university lab, where the assault occurred. According to the FIR, Gnanasekaran also demanded that the victim spend time with him and made threats involving her father’s phone number and videos. He also threatened to send videos to her father if she did not comply. He reportedly warned her not to visit her hometown during the Christmas holidays and instructed her to call him whenever he wanted.
Meanwhile, there has been controversy over the police sharing the victim’s personal information, including her address, in the FIR on the Chennai police website.
Additionally, opposition parties have released photos showing the accused with leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. BJP state president K. Annamalai accused Gnanasekaran of having ties with the DMK student wing in Saidapet, but state ministers Durai Murugan and Raghupathi denied any such affiliation.
