Thiruvananthapuram: When the first mothership arrived at Vizhinjam International Port, the Latin congregation stood up. The complaint is that the Latin Church did not receive an official invitation. Therefore, the church has decided to stay away from event. Thiruvananthapuram Latin Archdiocese Archbishop Thomas J. Neto will not participate in the ceremony of welcoming the first mothership in Vizhinjam. A notice issued by Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited (Whistle), a part of the Ports Department, has included the name of Thomas J. Neto as a distinguished presence.
But only the name was included, and the Latin Archdiocese clarified that no official invitation had yet been received. But those who protested against the Vizhinjam Port today have come forward with a complaint that they were not invited to the mothership drawing event.
The archbishop’s secretary stated that no notification or invitation has been received regarding the event. Latin archdiocese sources also say that they only saw the name in the notice.
Archbishop Thomas J. Neto will leave for Kochi tomorrow due to pre-arranged events. After attending the meeting of the All Kerala Bishops’ Council, he returned to Thiruvananthapuram only after three days. Latin Archdiocese Vicar General Eugene Pereira is also going to Kochi with him.
The Latin Archdiocese had earlier protested against the Vizhinjam port. The strike was ended on the basis of seven assurances given by the government. But Fr., who is in charge of the fishermen’s section, said that the government has not kept any assurances, including on the issue of money laundering, and the coastal residents are very angry in this regard.
