Why was the Wayanad disaster not declared a national disaster? Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in a press conference in Wayanad that the central government should answer what is the legal obstacle in declaring it as a national disaster. The Chief Minister said that Wayanad has experienced a great disaster and warned that there should not be another disaster as part of it.
The chief minister said that the search will be intensified in the Chaliyar river and assured that the rehabilitation will be carried out effectively. The camps will continue for a few more days. The Chief Minister said that different families are in the camp and arrangements will be made to protect their privacy. He also instructed journalists not to enter the camp with cameras. No one is allowed to visit relatives inside the camp.
Cabinet sub-committee Wayanad will work to coordinate activities in Wayanad. The chief minister also stated that the committee will include ministers from revenue, forest and tourism SC/ST departments.
The Chief Minister said that the Army has informed that there is no one alive in the disaster area. The Chief Minister said that it has been decided to continue the search in Chaliyar and the relief camps will continue for some more days and rehabilitation will be done in good condition.
The Chief Minister said that the people will be accommodated in the camp for the time being and the rehabilitation process will be adopted effectively. We have previous experience. The camp will continue for a few more days. People from different families live in the camps.
