The district administration officially confirmed the death of 39 people in the landslide in Mundakai. Three of the dead are children. The death toll is increasing every second. More than 40 people are still undergoing treatment with injuries. Heavy rains are making rescue operations difficult.
Many families in the area have gone missing. Around 100 families have been affected by the disaster in Mundakai alone. It is suspected that foreigners were also among the trapped people.. Hundreds of people were stranded after the bridge in Churalmala collapsed.
Two teams of Army have left for Wayanad from Kannur Cantonment. Two Air Force helicopters will arrive from Sulur. NDRF team reached Mundakai for rescue operation. Army team has returned from Kozhikode. Army, Air Force and Navy will jointly carry out the rescue operation.
