Kannur: Former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has stated that the death of ADM Naveen Babu is not a suicide but a murder carried out through a public trial orchestrated by the CPM leadership. He said that humiliating a person so brutally in front of colleagues and pushing them towards suicide is nothing short of murder. Naveen Babu, who had only seven months left until retirement, was driven to death due to personal animosity and public humiliation. Chennithala demanded a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
He also alleged that the CPM is exerting extreme pressure on government employees across Kerala to carry out any form of corruption. Those who don’t comply are subjected to severe harassment, which has led to several officials being pushed towards death. He stressed that this is unacceptable. If the district panchayat president threatened the ADM, it is a matter of grave concern.
The controversy erupted when District Panchayat President P.P. Divya publicly raised corruption allegations against the ADM during his farewell ceremony. She accused him of failing to act promptly on a recommendation she had made, among other things. If there were any allegations of corruption, there are many legal ways to address them. The district panchayat president could have lodged a complaint with vigilance or with the government to initiate strict action if there was concrete evidence. Instead, humiliating a person close to retirement in public and driving them to death is unacceptable behavior for someone holding a high constitutional position.
Chennithala further stated that this incident is another form of mob lynching. He asserted that it is not a suicide but a homicide. He demanded that if the CPM has any humanity left, they should remove P.P. Divya from her position as district panchayat president and arrest her for abetment to suicide.
