After consuming oleander plant leaves, a cow and a calf perished

Pathanamthitta: A cow and a calf died after eating the leaves of the Oleander plant leaves. A four-month-old calf and a four-year-old cow of Pankajavalliamma’s house died at Manchubhavan in Adoor Tengamath.

After the autopsy, the cause of death was found to be poison from Oleander leaves. This was confirmed by the District Veterinary Officer. The paddy field cut by the neighboring households was given to the cow and calf along with the fodder. After showing symptoms of indigestion, the panchayat had procured medicine from the veterinary hospital.

The calf died last Thursday. After the cow showed more discomfort, a person was brought to the veterinary hospital to receive the injection. Food scraps nearby raised suspicions. The cow also died by Friday evening.
