Aluva Shiva Temple and Manappuram Submerged as Periyar River Water Levels Rise

Aluva Shiva temple submerged in heavy rain. At Aluva Manappuram, Periyar overflowed its banks and the temple and Manappuram were filled with two feet of water. The water level in Periyar has increased due to the heavy rains that have been falling for two days, including in the catchment areas. After Periyar’s death, all the ceremonies in the temple were shifted to the upper temple. This is the first time in this rainy season that the Aluva Shiva temple is flooded.

At the same time, there was extensive damage in Ernakulam district due to heavy rains. Due to the wind and rain, trees fell down and damaged houses and vehicles. More damage was caused by fallen trees. The district administration has taken necessary precautions to prevent rain. As the water level rose in Periyar, all the shutters of Bhuthankett Dam were opened on Monday evening. The administration said there is no cause for concern at present.
