Babu’s mother and brother got stuck in Malampuzha Koormpachimala and died after being hit by a train. Babu’s mother Rasheeda (46) and younger brother Shaji (23) died. They were living on rent in Manthakkad area of Malampuzha. It is reported that they were jumping in front of Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai mail at around 10:30 on Tuesday night. Initial information is suicide. The police suspect that family problems may have prompted them to commit suicide.
Babu Kurumbachi, who reached Malampuzha in February 2022, gets stuck in the gorge. After more than 45 hours of rescue operation, the 23-year-old Babu was brought back to life by the mission team. As the state government systems alone could not rescue Babu, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan sought the help of the army.
Immediately the rescue team reached the spot. Locals, volunteers and the fire force made various efforts to rescue him, but later the army came and rescued Babu from the mountain top. An army team including mountaineering experts came from Bengaluru via Sulur and another army team came from Ooty and Wellington. Two groups of 24 people, including Hemant Raj, a native of Etumanoor, Kottayam, went to the top of the mountain for the rescue mission and brought Babu down.
