Voting has commenced in the by-elections in Wayanad and Chelakkara, where long queues of voters were visible at polling booths from early morning. Polling is scheduled from 7 AM to 6 PM. Yesterday, which was a day of silent campaigning, candidates were busy meeting voters in person to secure their support. In Chelakkara, a face-off between LDF candidate U.R. Pradeep and UDF’s Ramya Haridas is underway, with K. Balakrishnan representing BJP.
In Wayanad, following the resignation of MP Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, his sister and an AICC General Secretary, is contesting as the UDF candidate. Senior CPI leader Satyen Mokeri is running for LDF, and Navya Haridas represents the NDA.
A prohibition order is in effect from 6 PM yesterday until 6 PM today, banning rallies, public meetings, and processions. Static surveillance teams and flying squads are on duty to ensure compliance with the order, with strict action planned against any violations.
