The court disagreed with naming the lions Sita and Akbar

Kolkata: Calcutta High Court disagrees with naming lions Sita and Akbar. The High Court asked whether dogs and cats are named after gods. Then the Bengal government informed the High Court that the name could be changed and the name was given by the Tripura government. The documents were also presented.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad approached the Calcutta High Court against keeping Akbar, a male lion, and Sita, a female lion, together in a zoo. The court also pointed out that there should not have been any controversy regarding the name.
Meanwhile, the VHP argued in the court that the incident was an insult to the Hindu faith. The lions were brought to the zoological park on the 13th of this month for mating.
