Thrissur: CITU-affiliated port workers prevented guest laborers from unloading cement blocks at the home of Vishwanathan in Palissery, near Anicherikad. A total of 100 cement blocks, delivered for minor home repairs, were halted from being unloaded by the CITU workers, who insisted that either the homeowners unload the blocks themselves or not at all.
In response, Vishwanathan and his wife Sangeetha took matters into their own hands, unloading the cement blocks while CITU workers stood guard outside the wall until the task was complete. Vishwanathan expressed that the workers had threatened him, and he plans to submit a formal complaint to the district collector on Monday. Having recently returned home after years abroad, Vishwanathan said he was taken aback by the situation.
