Coastal Disturbances in Worsen Different Parts of State ; Authorities Urge Caution in Coastal Areas

Thiruvananthapuram: Intense rainfall is occurring across the state, leading to severe coastal disturbances. Many houses in coastal areas have been inundated, prompting caution advisories in these regions.

People are being relocated to safer areas in several places. Warnings have been issued in the coastal regions of Kollam, Kannur, and Alappuzha. Restrictions have been imposed on visitors at the beaches. A warning has been issued for widespread rain across the state. Meanwhile, orange alert is issued in Malappuram and Kannur have been withdrawn. Currently, a yellow alert has been announced for 12 districts, excluding Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.

Severe coastal disturbances have been reported in the Thrikunnapuzha and Ambalappuzha areas. Locals blocked the road in Thrikunnapuzha, with women among those participating in the protest. The blockade occurred near Chellakkad Junction in Ward 12, where a significant sand mound formed due to a trench dug for installing a drinking water pipeline. Residents state that the seawater is trapped and unable to flow away due to the coastal disturbances. The coastal disturbances have been particularly strong in areas such as Komana, Purakkad, Karur, Valanjavattom, Neerkunnam, and Vandanam in Ambalappuzha, affecting over 50 houses. Locals claim that the lack of a seawall in these areas has exacerbated the situation.
