A complaint has been filed with the DGP by Faisal Kulappadam, General Secretary of the Kollam District Congress Committee, requesting legal action against IAS officer K. Gopalakrishnan for attempting to create religious discord in society. The complaint pertains to the ongoing controversy surrounding a WhatsApp group named “Mallu Hindu” created by Gopalakrishnan.
Earlier, the police had informed that they could not take action on their own in this matter, as the investigation had only been triggered by a complaint filed by Gopalakrishnan himself. The police stated that there was a lack of scientific evidence to support claims of phone hacking, and that legal action could only proceed if a complaint was filed by any of the officials involved in the WhatsApp group.
The controversy erupted after Gopalakrishnan, who created the group, allegedly added members with Hindu religious affiliations, including senior officials from various services. Gopalakrishnan later explained that he had hacked phones and added people to 11 WhatsApp groups, which raised further concerns.
