Thrissur: The court has sentenced a husband to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1.5 lakh for murdering his 24-year-old wife just 18 days after childbirth. The incident that led to the case occurred on August 20, 2022. The verdict was delivered by Irinjalakuda Additional District Sessions Judge N. Vinod Kumar in the case of the murder of Hashida (24), daughter of Nooruddin of Aravassery House, Ayyanchira, Thalikkulam, Thrissur. The accused, Muhammad Asif Azeez, hails from Panikkarmoola Mangalathara House, Kattur.
As per the court order, ₹1 lakh of the fine amount is to be given to Hashida’s children. The crime occurred on the 18th day after Hashida gave birth to her second child when Muhammad Asif attacked her with a sharp weapon, inflicting fatal injuries. Hashida’s father, Nooruddin, who tried to intervene, also sustained head injuries. Hashida’s mother was also harassed during the attack. The next day, Hashida succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thrissur.
The case was initially registered by Circle Inspector K.S. Sushant of Valappad. Later, it was taken over by N.S. Saleesh, then DySP of Kodungallur. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested, and a charge sheet was submitted to the court. Additional Public Prosecutor Adv. Joji George, along with advocates P.A. James, Ebin Gopuran, Aljo P. Antony, and T.G. Sowmya, represented the prosecution in court.
