CPM Prioritizes Women; Kerala to Have a Woman Chief Minister in the Future: KK Shailaja

Kollam: CPM Central Committee member K.K. Shailaja stated that Kerala will have a woman Chief Minister in the future. She emphasized that CPM is not opposed to women becoming Chief Minister and that the party has always given importance to women.

Women make up 50% of the world’s population, and their representation should increase in all sectors. More women are rising in leadership, and their representation within the party is also growing. It should continue to grow. From branch secretaries to area secretaries, women are taking charge. Next, we will see them as district secretaries, said Shailaja.

CPM Politburo member Brinda Karat also reinforced this stance, stating that there is no gender-based restriction in selecting the party’s General Secretary. She clarified that the Party Congress decides the General Secretary based on merit.

Brinda Karat also spoke about the ongoing Asha workers’ protest, emphasizing that they deserve justice and fair wages. She reiterated that CPM supports their demand to be recognized as permanent employees but also reminded that the Asha project is a central government initiative and its responsibilities should not be overlooked.
