Daughter’s death after vaccination, parents against serum institute

New Delhi: The parents of a child who died after taking Covishield vaccine have initiated legal proceedings against the Serum Institute of India (SII). The company had disclosed yesterday that the covid vaccine AZD1222 (CoviShield in India) manufactured by AstraZeneca, a UK drug manufacturing company, causes serious side effects.

The woman died in July 2021 after taking Covishield. But the national committee formed by the government has given a report that it cannot be confirmed that the vaccine was the cause of Karunya’s death. Following this, father Govindan filed a writ petition demanding that an independent medical board be formed and an investigation be conducted into the death of his daughter.

AstraZeneca has stated in the UK High Court that the CoviShield vaccine can cause strokes and heart attacks. The company also informed that there is a possibility of a medical condition called TTS (Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome) in which the blood clots and the number of platelets in the blood decreases.
