The protest by Hindu devotees has yielded results. As a result, the non-veg cafe near the Ernakulam Shiva temple has been shut down. The issue had also attracted the attention of the Devaswom Board and the Ernakulam MLA. A Devaswom officer clarified that the cafe was not granted a corporation license.
The restaurant selling meat was located near the Darbar Art Gallery, east of the Ernakulam Shiva Temple. The controversy began after images of the restaurant started circulating on social media. Devotees pointed out that selling meat at a place where temple rituals are held went against temple traditions, prompting the Devaswom Board to intervene.
The Devaswom officer stated that the Board was unaware of the restaurant’s opening. The restaurant had been in operation for only one day before action was taken. The restaurant was started despite the restriction on selling fish and meat in the temple vicinity.
