Thiruvananthapuram: Siddharth, a student of Wayanad’s Pookkode Veterinary College, died after being lynched and beaten by a mob. Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan said that the ragging incident at Kottayam Nursing College is a continuation of this tragedy, and that it only did not reach murder.
Brutal scenes of torture have emerged. This is happening in many college hostels in Kerala. In Thiruvananthapuram University College, a disabled student was taken to the union room and beaten up. The government and the CPM tried to protect the SFI members accused in the Pookode incident. The ragging in Kottayam Nursing College was also led by the state secretary of an organization affiliated with SFI. The CPM should kindly disband SFI.
They are taking the progressive student community back 40 years through ragging. They are attacking students for money to buy drugs and alcohol. Such atrocities have taken place in a hostel for Scheduled Caste students. How hard do parents have to send their children to college?
When they go to college, children are subjected to brutal attacks by miscreants. They do unheard of cruel things like drawing compasses all over their bodies, pouring fevicol on them, and putting weights on their private parts. The assailants themselves took a video of this and circulated it. How cruel are these people?
What is the job of the hostel warden? Didn’t the teachers and the principal know anything about this? It is unbelievable that such brutal violence took place in the hostel without anyone knowing. We must tell the Chief Minister and the government not to come forward to protect such accused. The parents of Siddharth of Pookotte are still in pain over the loss of their son. The accused are happily writing their exams and looking for their next victims.
The government’s biased stance on the Pookod incident is the reason for the recurrence of such incidents. If uncompromising action is not taken, such incidents will continue to occur. The union rooms in many colleges are in shambles. No one can carry out organizational activities. The government should take immediate action and ensure that such incidents do not happen in any hostels again. Otherwise, there will be a very strong strike, said Satheesan.
