Empuraan Defames India’s Rulers; C.Raghunath

Thiruvananthapuram: Criticism against the movie Empuraan is intensifying. BJP National Council member C. Raghunath has come forward with a strong response, stating that Empuraan is a film that defames India’s rulers. He also demanded that actor Mohanlal’s honorary Lieutenant Colonel rank be revoked. Raghunath further stated that he would approach the court to remove Mohanlal’s military title.

He alleged that the film mocks those associated with the central government and expressed doubts that Mohanlal was unaware of it. He also called for an investigation into whether Empuraan received any foreign funding. Additionally, he criticized the Censor Board, claiming that they failed to conduct a proper review of the movie.

Meanwhile, details regarding the censorship of Empuraan have surfaced. According to reports, the Censor Board has issued two cuts for the film—one reducing the duration of a scene depicting violence against women and another concerning a reference to the national flag.

There has also been internal criticism within the RSS, stating that its nominated members in the Censor Board failed to intervene appropriately. However, counterarguments suggest that the storyline cannot be entirely altered. Calls for reviewing the role of RSS-nominated members in the censorship process have also gained momentum.

Despite the controversy, the BJP has maintained that there is no need for a campaign against the film. Meanwhile, the Regional Censor Officer has declined to comment on the censorship controversy.
