Fake vote in Kalyassery, case against six people including former branch secretary of CPM, vote to be cancelled

Kannur: A case has been filed against six people on the complaint that there was an irregular interference during the recording of vote of an elderly woman in Kalyassery that the secret nature of the vote was lost. CPM’s former branch secretary Ganesan is the first accused. Five polling officers are also on the charge sheet. Five officials were suspended. District Collector K Impashekhar informed that the vote will be invalidated and re-polling is not possible.

Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Kaul has also clarified that no lapses in the process of facilitating voting at home for senior citizens and devotees will be allowed under any circumstances. He said that the officials should act cautiously so as to preserve the dignity and essence of the election process.

The complaint was made last night. Immediately after receiving the information, the Kannur District Collector was instructed to take further action. Ganesan, a booth agent and CPM leader, cast his vote while a 92-year-old woman was recording her vote at booth number 164 in Kannur Kalyassery.

The Collector had suspended five polling officers after finding that there had been irregular interference to lose the secrecy of the vote. Special Polling Officer Pournami VV, Polling Assistant Prajin TK, Micro Observer Sheela A, Civil Police Officer Legeesh P and Videographer Riju Amaljit PP were suspended.
