Famous dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy passed away

New Delhi: Renowned dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy (84) passed away. Yamini, who was undergoing treatment due to ill health, died at Delhi’s Apollo Hospital. He was being treated in the emergency department for the past seven months due to age-related diseases

Yamini played a major role in bringing the classical styles of Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi to international dance stages. Yamini Krishnamurthy has been honored by the country with Padma Shri (1968), Padma Bhushan (2001) and Padma Vibhushan (2016). She has also received the honor of being the Asthana Nartaki of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam.

Yamini was born on 20 December 1940 at Madanapally in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Sanskrit scholar and poet M. Krishnamurthy is the father.
