Floating bridge collapses again in Varkala

At Thiruvananthapuram’s Varkala Papanasam beach, a floating bridge collapsed once again. The bridge, which had been installed just the previous day for study purposes at the same location where a similar incident had occurred earlier, was destroyed early this morning due to strong waves. The intense waves broke the bridge into three parts. The new floating bridge had been set up under the leadership of NIT for research purposes.

The first collapse of a floating bridge at Papanasam beach happened on March 9 last year. People standing on the bridge had fallen into the sea, and around twenty individuals were involved in the accident. Following that, the tourism department had been working on reinstalling the floating bridge with enhanced safety measures. As part of that effort, NIT was conducting a study. The new collapse occurred during the ongoing stability test.
