Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has changed his stand regarding the appointment of Swapna Suresh, the accused in the gold smuggling case, under the IT department. The order suspending M Sivasankar is contrary to the stand taken by the Chief Minister on July 7, when the case was controversial. The CM had earlier said that the dream job was not given to him by the IT department but through a placement agency.

The recommendation to appoint him as the Operations Manager of the Space Park Project under the IT Department was made by the former Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, M.S. The government has stated in the suspension order that it is Shiva Shankar. The order states that the recommendation was made while working at the UAE Consulate. The change in the stand of the Chief Minister and the government regarding the appointment of Swapna comes as the National Investigation Agency has taken over the gold smuggling case.
