Heavy rain lashes Kerala; Red alert issued in three districts today

Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rainfall warning continues in the state today. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts are on red alert. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts are on orange alert. Other districts will be on yellow alert.

The Central Meteorological Department has informed that in the next 3 hours, there is a possibility of moderate rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts of Kerala.

There is a warning not to go to sea due to strong winds and bad weather. Extreme caution should be taken in hilly areas considering the possibility of landslides. Low pressure may form in Bay of Bengal on Thursday. Later it is likely to turn into severe depression. A cyclone has formed over southern coastal Tamil Nadu and a low pressure area has formed over northern Karnataka.

Heavy rain is likely in the state for the next five days. Heavy rain is likely till tomorrow. According to the Central Meteorological Center, very heavy rain is also possible at isolated places till Friday.
