Thiruvananthapuram: Widespread rains are likely in Kerala today despite the warning of heavy rains in the coming days. Yellow alert has been announced in various districts today. The southwest monsoon is about to arrive and the state is expected to receive heavy rainfall from tomorrow.
Yellow alert has been announced today in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. An orange alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts and a yellow alert has been announced in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on May 20.
The Central Meteorological Department said that moderate rain with thundershowers at isolated places and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph are likely in Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts this morning. Rains reached all the districts of the state. Heavy rain with thunder and lightning was received in many districts.
