Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in the state due to the influence of a low-pressure system. The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to make landfall tomorrow.

A yellow alert has been issued for several districts on Thursday and Friday. Isolated thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely over the next five days. On December 12, districts including Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad are under a yellow alert. On December 13, the alert extends to Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kasaragod.

The low-pressure system currently lies over the southeastern Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Indian Ocean near the equator. It is expected to intensify further in the coming hours and reach the southwestern Bay of Bengal near the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coast by tomorrow. The IMD also forecasts heavy rain in isolated areas from December 12 to 14.
