Kochi: The High Court has rejected the urgent plea to halt the screening of the movie Empuraan. The court pointed out doubts regarding the petitioner’s intentions and highlighted that the plea seemed to be for unnecessary publicity.
The court asked the petitioner if they had watched Empuraan and questioned whether the film was not certified by the Censor Board. It also inquired if the petitioner had filed a complaint with the police against the film. The state government opposed the plea to stop the screening, stating that once the Censor Board has granted approval, there is no restriction on its exhibition. The government also pointed out that no case has been registered against the film.
Based on the government’s response, the High Court dismissed the request to halt the screening of the movie. The court sought a response from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the petition, but did not accept the request for an explanation from the makers of Empuraan. The petition has been postponed for consideration after the court vacation.
BJP worker V.V. Vijesh had filed the petition against Empuraan. Following the controversy, Vijesh was suspended from the party. BJP Thrissur district president Justin Jacob clarified that the party was not aware of Vijesh’s approach to the court, and that the BJP state president had already explained the party’s stance on the issue
