Sultan, the husband of Tasleem Sultana who was previously arrested in the hybrid ganja case, has now been taken into custody. He was caught at the Tamil Nadu–Andhra Pradesh border, with the arrest carried out by the investigation team from Andhra Pradesh.
It was Sultan who brought hybrid ganja into India, sourcing it from Malaysia. He is a key figure among the wholesale distributors of ganja. A native of Tamil Nadu, Sultan conducted his operations in Kerala through Tasleem.
Tasleem Sultana was arrested in Alappuzha with hybrid ganja worth ₹2 crore. She had reportedly told investigators that she supplied ganja to film actors Sreenath Bhasi and Shine Tom Chacko. Tasleem also revealed that she had used drugs on multiple occasions along with the actors. The excise department had obtained chat records between Tasleem and the actors.
Excise Deputy Commissioner S. Vinod Kumar had earlier stated to the media that this was one of the biggest hybrid ganja seizures in recent times. Police have also found that the woman had connections with prominent individuals in the film industry. The imported hybrid ganja was distributed by her in Ernakulam, and she had also established a distribution network in Alappuzha, which ultimately led to her arrest by the excise department.
