R. Abhiraj, a student of Ernakulam Kalamassery Polytechnic who was arrested in a cannabis case, has claimed that he was framed. Abhiraj, an SFI activist and the union general secretary, stated that someone from outside had placed the cannabis. He also insisted that he does not use cannabis and has no links to any drug mafia.
The police recovered over 2 kg of cannabis during a surprise raid conducted in the hostel based on confidential information. A case has been registered against students Adithyan from Haripad, Abhiraj from Karunagappally, and Akash from Kulathupuzha. However, reports suggest that Adithyan and Abhiraj were released on station bail. Around 1.9 kg of cannabis was found in Akash’s room. The seized cannabis was allegedly brought in for sale under the guise of Holi celebrations at the college. The unexpected police raid took place while the students were repackaging the cannabis into smaller packets for distribution.
The incident took place in a college dominated by the student organization SFI. Last week, the police had arrested a former student of the college with cannabis. Information obtained from his interrogation led to the discovery of the cannabis stockpile in the college hostel. Following the incident, the Department of Technical Education has announced an investigation, assigning the responsibility to the Joint Director.
