Kochi: Principal Dr. Aiju Thomas has reacted to the incident of ganja being seized from the boys hostel of Kalamassery Govt Polytechnic. Anti-drug activities have been being conducted on the campus for the last six months due to changes in the behavior of children coming to the classroom. He also clarified that the inspection was carried out as a precaution as the Holi celebrations are about to take place.
Small quantities have been seized several times before. Such matters have been brought to the attention of the authorities for the past six months. This is not a sudden action. After it was brought to their attention earlier, an inquiry commission was set up and reports were received and handed over to the authorities from time to time.
“The union and student organizations are part of anti-drug activities. It is only natural that some isolated children get involved,” Dr. Aiju Thomas clarified.
“The third-year students were caught. There is a possibility that they might succumb to many temptations. The aim is not to blame but to bring them to the right path. Just because the media found out does not mean that we are the first to know,” he added.
“There are a total of 60 people in the hostel. Not all of them are using cannabis. The academic council will meet in the incident and take action against the students who were arrested,” he added.
