Producer Sandra Thomas claims that her recent removal from the Film Producers’ Association was due to her questioning the Association’s silence on the Hema Committee report. She criticized certain members for their authoritarian approach, singling out producer G. Suresh Kumar, whom she likened to Kim Jong-un.
“Sureshettan controls everything in the Association as far as I understand. Despite the advanced times we live in, the Producers’ Association doesn’t even have a common WhatsApp group—there are only panel-specific groups, and no discussions beneficial to producers take place in them. There have been cases where people were ousted for speaking up about corruption related to the Association’s building, and those supporting Director Vinayan were also removed,” Sandra remarked.
Sandra added that dissenting members are often blacklisted and expelled. As someone who has produced and distributed 14 films, she insists on her commitment to the Association but expressed frustration over limited creative opportunities, adding that she would release her films on YouTube if necessary.
